Erotic Movie Thursday
Since I will no longer be doing Sensual Domination Hour live on our adult internet radio; I thought I would give you something to watch on Thursdays instead. This week’s pick: Sex, Lies and Videotape.
OK so a little retro I know, but I came across this 1989 gem last night while researching for the show today. If you haven’t seen it watch it and if you have watched comment at the bottom of this post. Let me know your thoughts and opinions about the characters and the relationship issues they are going through on a daily basis. I found this movie to be a bit ahead of its time being that I was very very young when it was released.
For its time this movie was very controversial and very taboo. Men and women video taping one another having sex! Unheard of! But by today’s standards not so much. I think the true meaning of this movine or its motivation would be the conversations that were videoed not the actual sex. And James Spaders weird impotent thing where he can’t perform in the presence of another person, and he only achieves gratification by watching the taped video sessions in private. I know right! Let me know what you think.
Now Discussion Time!
If you have watched Sex, Lies, and Videotape; it’s time to give your opinion! Below in the comments area let’s discuss the characters and the plot and the just all around dysfunction of these characters. The picks are not only mine, you have a say as well. Just send me a movie you feel is an erotic movie. Not down right porn but a good erotic or maybe a sensual domination movie. That would be a great pick!
Next week’s pick will be Bram Stoker’s To Die For. Yes it’s all about Vampire love! You all know how much I love the movies. If you have Netflix it is available through streaming and if not use our best friends google and YouTube. Look it up and watch so that we can have a discussion on it next week.

Empress Sophia

Woo hoo a return to Ms Sophia’s erotic movie night! I love your reviews, you’re truly an entertainment Goddess! I do have a suggestion here, perhaps the format of this movie could be used for a segment here and there on your talkshoe show. Maybe call it “Sex, Lies, and Podcasting”! I think it would be awesome to have these type of interviews for us all to enjoy! But then again, it may be wayyyyy too smoking hot to get past the censors…but do we really care???? Thanks again for all you do Goddess!
Hey Ms Sophia,
As a fellow movie fan, I applaud this segment (as well as a successful first weekend of your early evening show). I haven’t seen “Sex, Lies, and Videotape” in a long time but it did cross my consciousness recently as I’m reading this book on the rise of Sundance and 90’s independent film called “Down and Dirty Pictures”. I found the book in a $2 bin, and it’s probably a bit too “inside baseball” to blind recommend, but there is a lot of text dedicated to “Sex, Lies…” in the book. It was the debut film of Steven Soderburgh, who would go on to do other films such as “Out of Sight” (glorious), “Traffic”, “Erin Brockovich”, and “The Girlfriend Experience”.
It’s been awhile since I’ve seen this one, but I remember it being very well acted between the four leads. MacDowell has never been nearly this good again, and Laura San Giacomo was RAVISHING.
Here’s a little chapter of a video series on the evolution of 80’s movies. The “Sex, Lies…” portion comes on at around the 7:00 mark.

I totally agree that SL@V was way ahead of its time. It covered a Taboo that today is making people famous by association. (Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian for example.) The movie is well worth watching just for the interaction between the main cast and to see the dynamics that form in these “behind closed doors” environments.
My recommendation would not be a movie, but instead some of the “Red Shoe Diary” episodes that came out in the 90s. Lots of good stories in those episodes.
Well MsSophia… i was just doing my sissy best to earn pennies so i had to cum over to Your blog to post a comment. It is interesting how you can really learn something doing this for the auction. I had no idea the shows were replayed on TalkShoe, but now i guess i can hear You every day! And of course MsAlex is always great too…
Hey Ms Sophia,
If you are looking for ideas for film suggestions, off the top of my head (I will return with more of course) I would recommend “Unfaithful” w/ Diane Lane and Richard Gere (almost 20 years after they first worked together on the famous flop, “The Cotton Club”). Anyway, I’m sure you’ve seen this one, but “Unfaithful” is a bit of a hodgepodge as a film but it does fit what your looking for, being 1/3rd torrid affair, 1/3rd average thriller, and 1/3rd Diane Lane AWESOMENESS.
Wow! Blast from the past, it has been so long since I have seen Sex, Lies, and Videotape that I’ll have to re-watch it!
As for other sexy movies… Dangerous Liaisons, or even its modern cousin, Cruel Intentions. I love a good seduction.
While you wouldn’t normally expect a Keanu Reeves movie, there was some sexy stuff in The Devil’s Advocate. Personally, I hope I never really meet the devil, because I really don’t picture myself saying no to those temptations :-p
I suppose you’d have to include Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut on this kind of list, but when I saw it in the theater I wasn’t overly impressed. Might be worth a re-watch now, years later…
I remember going to the movies to “Sex, Lies & Videotape” when it first came out. I had heard that it was scandelous and that alone got me interested. The dynamics between all the characters was fascinating to watch. The affair of Andy McDowell’s husband with her sister was incredibly arousing. I found the best part was after the sister had given her “interview” and she called him at work, how he kept fighting with himself not to go to her and to put business first but allowing his cock to over rule his big head and it ends up costing him in the end. I remember that after the sex he said “you were on fire today!” I love that phrase. I saw that castaway recommended a movie and I certainly agree with his pick, but I’d like to recommend one of my own and that’s “Body Heat”. It came out before SL&V but it is absolutely fantastic and even includes a very young Micky Rourke. I’m sure I misspelled all the names of the actors names in this comment and for that I apologize.
